2nd grade, week 19, day 3

Day 93 of 180 · Social studies: Needs and wants · Science: Mixing and dissolving · about 130 minutes

Reading30 min

soft c and g in sentences

  1. Read the soft c and g words from this week again, then read them in sentences: on the decodable page, or in three short sentences you write.
  2. New sight words: “about” and “better”. These are read by sight, not sounded out. Write each on a card and read the cards every day this week.
Writing20 min

Fact or opinion

  1. Write two facts and two opinions about money, and label each one.
  2. Your child reads a short passage, closes it, and writes three facts from memory in their own words.
Math30 min

A new hundred

  1. Build 372 + 156. The tens make 12 tens, so trade ten tens for a hundred flat: 528.
  2. Do 481 + 263 the same way.
Science15 min

Sand and salt

  1. Mix sand and salt, then find a way to get them apart again. Hint: one of them dissolves.
  2. Your child writes a guess about why it happened, and how they could test the guess.
Social studies20 min

Income and spending

  1. Money that comes in is income, and money that goes out is spending. Make a chart for a pretend week of a lemonade stand.
  2. Did the stand earn more than it spent on lemons and cups?
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Rumpelstiltskin

  1. Read “Rumpelstiltskin” aloud. Give the characters different voices; it helps a young listener follow who is talking.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
