Read: The Fox and the Grapes

  1. Your child reads it aloud to you, then reads one page again with expression, the way a character would say it.
  2. When your child is stuck, say the first sound and let them finish the word, rather than saying the whole word.
  3. Afterward, ask: what was your favorite page, and why?
Writing20 min

So

  1. Write what your bean test showed, using so to link the result to your opinion.
  2. Linking words (also, another reason, for example, so) connect reasons. Your child uses at least two in each opinion.
Math30 min

Inches or feet?

  1. Choose the better unit for a crayon, a room, a book, a car and a door.
  2. Measure two of them in the unit you chose.
Science20 min

Pollen on the move

  1. Flowers need pollen carried from flower to flower to make seeds. Dab a cotton swab in the center of a flower, then touch it to another flower.
  2. Look at the swab: what did it pick up? Bees do this with their fuzzy bodies.
Social studies15 min

Rivers run to the sea

  1. Find a big river on the globe and follow it to the ocean. Which direction does it flow?
  2. Your child draws a labeled picture of today's activity and writes a caption.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Stone Soup

  1. Read “Stone Soup” aloud, and let your child turn the pages.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
