Reread: The Little Lantern

  1. Reread “The Little Lantern”. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “their” and “these”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.

Check the paragraph

  1. Reread one paragraph from this week and add an ending sentence if it needs one.
  2. A paragraph has a topic sentence, three or four sentences that tell more, and an ending sentence. Your child indents the first line.
Math30 min

Fact fluency check

  1. Do two minutes of mixed facts within 20 and count how many are right.
  2. Circle the slow facts to practice next week.
Science15 min

A science notebook page

  1. Set up a notebook page with a date, a question, a drawing and what you noticed, for something in the yard.
  2. Your child explains today's science to someone at home, then writes it down in three sentences.
Social studies20 min

A poster about me

  1. Make a poster with your name, a drawing of you, your timeline and your goal.
  2. Present it to the family in one minute.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Eeyore's Birthday

  1. Read “Eeyore's Birthday” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
