1st grade homeschool plan, week 32
Endings: -er and -est · Coins · Build it strong
Week 32 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 110 minutes each.
Reading: -er and -est, -er compares two things (taller), -est compares three or more (tallest). Words to read and spell: taller, tallest, faster, fastest, smaller, smallest, longer and longest. Sight words: “many” and “off”. The new story is “The Snail Race”, and the reread is “Henny Penny”.
Writing: How-to: the rules of a game. Your child writes how to play a game: what you need, how to start, how to take a turn, and how to win.
Math: Coins. Naming pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and their values, and counting small amounts.
Science: Build it strong. Engineers solve problems by building, testing and making it better, the same steps children use with blocks.
Social studies, a shorter piece each day: The American flag. The flag of the United States has 13 stripes for the first 13 states and 50 stars for the 50 states today.
Read-alouds: “The Three Little Pigs”, “The Squeaky Gate”, “The Fox and the Stork”, “Coo Catches Gumdrop” and “The Elevator Plan”.
For the whole family: Have a tower contest with paper cups or blocks: the tallest tower that stands for ten seconds wins.
