Reading25 min

Reread: The Tortoise and the Hare

  1. Reread “The Tortoise and the Hare” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “its” and “made”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Writing15 min

My book review

  1. Write a book review with your opinion, two reasons, and an ending sentence.
  2. Your child writes whether they liked a book, gives two reasons from the story, and ends by saying the opinion again.
Math25 min

A shape city

  1. Build a small city from boxes, cans, cones and balls.
  2. Your child tells you which solid shapes are in each building.
Science20 min

Salt water holds things up

  1. Put an egg in a glass of plain water, then stir in lots of salt.
  2. What happens to the egg? Salty ocean water holds things up more than fresh water does.
Social studies10 min

If I were mayor

  1. Write one new rule you would make for your town and one reason for it.
  2. Afterward, your child draws a picture and writes a caption under it.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Monkey and the Crocodile

  1. Read “The Monkey and the Crocodile” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
