Reread: The Little Red Hen

  1. Reread “The Little Red Hen” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “been” and “before”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.

Mail it

  1. Check one letter for capitals and end marks, copy it neatly, and send it.
  2. A friendly letter has a date, a greeting, a body, a closing and a name. Your child writes to someone they know.

Measure and put in order

  1. Measure four toys with the same unit and write each length.
  2. Put the toys in order by length and check that the numbers are in order too.

  1. List ten things that come from trees, like paper, wood, fruit, nuts, shade and homes for animals.
  2. Your child writes one question today's science made them wonder about.
Social studies20 min

A home long ago

  1. Draw a home from long ago and your home today side by side: light, heat, water and food.
  2. Your child writes one sentence about the biggest change.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Rumpelstiltskin

  1. Read “Rumpelstiltskin” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This is an old tale, told for a long time. Afterward, ask: what did someone in the story learn?
