1st grade homeschool plan, week 12
Silent e: o_e, u_e and e_e · Comparing story problems · What plants need
Week 12 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 2. Five days, about 85 minutes each.
Reading: o_e, u_e and e_e, the silent e makes the vowel say its name: hop becomes hope, cub becomes cube. Words to read and spell: home, bone, rope, nose, cube, cute, mule and these. Sight words: “live” and “may”. The new story is “Meg and the Seed”, and the reread is “Not Yet, Ted”.
Math: Comparing story problems. Story problems that ask how many more or how many fewer, solved by matching and by subtracting.
Science: What plants need. Plants need light, water, air and space to grow, and they make their own food from light.
Read-alouds: “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Water Uphill”, “The Fox and the Grapes”, “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and “Johnny Appleseed”.
For the whole family: Plant beans in cups: give some light and water, and leave one in the dark, and watch for a week.
