New: o_e, u_e and e_e

1. This week: o_e, u_e and e_e. The silent e makes the vowel say its name: hop becomes hope, cub becomes cube.
2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: home, bone, rope and nose.
3. Your child finds a o_e, u_e and e_e word in a book or on a box at home.

How many more?

1. Sam has 9 toy cars and Ana has 6. How many more does Sam have?
2. Line the cars up in two rows to see the extra ones.

Roots and stems carry water

1. Put a celery stalk in a glass of water with food coloring overnight.
2. In the morning, look at the color climbing up the stalk.

Read-aloud: Jack and the Beanstalk

1. Read “Jack and the Beanstalk” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
2. Before reading, look at the title and the first page and ask: what do you think this story is about?
3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
