Why a homeschool parent writes one
Many college applications ask for a letter or a report from the school counselor. In a homeschool the parent is the counselor, so the parent writes it. Keep it short and factual: the school, the student's record and what the reader will find in the papers sent with it.
What this letter says
- Who you are: the parent, the counselor and the administrator of the school.
- The record: credits earned, the GPA and the graduation date, taken from your transcript.
- Where courses came from, from your school profile.
- A few sentences about the student in your words, if you want to add them.
Applications that use the Common App have their own counselor forms; follow what each one asks. Check the transcript first with the transcript checker, and print the transcript to go with the letter.
