Elemental Science

By Elemental ScienceChecked October 31, 2026No affiliate links. Programs never pay to appear. How we label

Elemental Science publishes homeschool science from kindergarten to high school, built on three keys: doing hands-on science, reading about it and writing it down. Families choose a classical series planned by stage (grammar, logic, rhetoric), the story-based Sassafras Science, in which children follow a novel through a field of science, or short Science Chunks units. Books come printed or as eBooks, with experiment kits sold beside them.

What it does well

  • Several styles under one roof: a classical plan by stage, a novel-led series and short units, so families can switch without changing publisher.
  • Each lesson mixes an experiment, reading and a written record, which builds the habit of a science notebook.
  • eBooks cost much less than print and arrive within minutes.
  • Multi-age options let siblings study the same science field together.

Watch for

  • Each Sassafras volume is one semester, so a full year means buying two volumes and their kit.
  • Supply kits are sold separately from the books, and some year bundles were sold out when we checked.
  • Printed books ship by media mail and can take up to three weeks.
  • With so many series, choosing the right one takes time; the publisher has a where-to-start guide.

It fits

A family that wants science with real experiments, reading and notebooking, and likes the choice of a story-led or classical plan.

It doesn’t fit

A family that wants a video-led course, or one where the child works alone on a screen.

What we read, and how we label

Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
