Day 23 of 180 · Science: Weather watch · Social studies: Staying safe · about 130 minutes

Reading30 min

i_e, igh, y and ie in sentences

  1. Read the i_e, igh, y and ie words from this week again, then read them in sentences: on the decodable page, or in three short sentences you write.
  2. New sight words: “which” and “why”. These are read by sight, not sounded out. Write each on a card and read the cards every day this week.
Writing20 min

Watching the wind

  1. Write what the wind did over three days, in order.
  2. Time-order words (first, next, then, after that, finally) move a reader through events. Your child uses at least three in each piece.
Math30 min

Count by 100s

  1. Count by 100s to 1,000, then from 50: 150, 250, 350.
  2. Show a few with hundred flats.
Science20 min

Wind speed

  1. Watch flags, trees and smoke to judge the wind: calm, a breeze, or strong wind.
  2. Make a three-row chart and fill it each day.
Social studies15 min

Safe online

  1. Talk about rules for screens: ask before clicking, never share your name or where you live, and tell a grown-up if something feels wrong.
  2. Your child explains today to someone at home, then writes the main idea in a sentence.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Rain's Long Trip

  1. Read “Rain's Long Trip” aloud. Give the characters different voices; it helps a young listener follow who is talking.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
