-ful, -less and -ness in sentences

  1. Read the -ful, -less and -ness words from this week again, then read them in sentences: on the decodable page, or in three short sentences you write.
  2. New sight words: “grow” and “hold”. These are read by sight, not sounded out. Write each on a card and read the cards every day this week.
Writing20 min

The second source

  1. Write three facts from your second source, and the source's name.
  2. With a grown-up, your child reads two short sources on one topic and writes what each one says.
Math30 min

Repeated adding

  1. An array of 4 rows of 5 is 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20.
  2. Build three arrays and write the adding sentence for each.
Science20 min

Muscles work in pairs

  1. When the muscle on the front of your arm pulls, the one on the back relaxes, and the other way round.
  2. Feel both while you bend and straighten your arm, and draw the pair.
Social studies15 min

Artifacts

  1. An artifact is an object people made and used. Pick an old object at home and write what it tells about its time.
  2. Your child explains today to someone at home, then writes the main idea in a sentence.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Hum Under My Hand

  1. Read “Hum Under My Hand” aloud. Give the characters different voices; it helps a young listener follow who is talking.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
