A finished piece

  1. Copy your best piece of the quarter neatly and read it to the family.
  2. Your child rereads with a checklist: capitals, end marks, spelling patterns we know, and does every sentence make sense.
Math30 min

Second quarter review

  1. Do ten review problems: regrouping, measuring, time and money.
  2. Mark any that need more practice next quarter.
Science15 min

Magnets at home

  1. Find magnets used at home, like on the fridge or a cabinet door, and write what each one does.
  2. Your child explains today's science to someone at home, then writes it down in three sentences.

Helpers then and now

  1. Compare a helper's job long ago and today, like a mail carrier on horseback and in a truck.
  2. Write how the job changed and how it stayed the same.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Squeaky Gate

  1. Read “The Squeaky Gate” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. Afterward, ask: has anything like this happened to you? How was it the same, or different?
