  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: saw, draw, claw and haul.
  3. Your child finds a aw, au and all word in a book or on a box at home.
Writing20 min

Main events

  1. List the five most important events of a read-aloud from this week.
  2. A retelling keeps the main events in order and leaves out small details. Your child retells a story in five sentences.
Math30 min

  1. Sort pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and write each value with ¢.
  2. Which coin is worth the most? Which is the biggest?
Science20 min

Hibernate, migrate or adapt

  2. Make a three-column chart with a drawing of each.
Social studies15 min

Tree to table

  1. Draw the steps an apple takes from the tree to your table, with a worker at each step.
  2. Afterward, your child writes two or three sentences about what they did and why it matters.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Penguins Up Close

  1. Read “Penguins Up Close” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
