Week 9 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 85 minutes each.

Reading: a review week (short vowels, letter pairs and blends). Every sound so far, writing words by their sounds, and the sight words “him” and “his”. The new story is “The Red Hat”, and the reread is “Rain on the Hat”.

Math: Review and story problems. Story problems that add and take away, and a check on facts and counting.

History: Maps of my world. A map is a drawing of a place from above, from a bedroom to a neighborhood to the whole Earth.

Read-alouds: “Little Red Riding Hood”, “The Tale of Peter Rabbit”, “The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse”, “Bracken Keeps the Hill” and “The Boxcar Children”.

For the whole family: Draw a map of your home together, each child adding a room.
