1st grade homeschool plan, week 8
Endings -s and -es · Doubles and near doubles · Fall changes
Week 8 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 85 minutes each.
Reading: -s and -es, -s means more than one (cats); after s, x, sh and ch it is -es, a whole extra beat (boxes). Words to read and spell: cats, dogs, bugs, hats, boxes, dishes, wishes and buses. Sight words: “has” and “her”. The new story is “Rain on the Hat”, and the reread is “Mop Can Hop”.
Math: Doubles and near doubles. Learning the doubles to 10 + 10 by heart and using them for near doubles like 6 + 7.
Science: Fall changes. As the weather cools, leaves change, days get shorter, and animals and people get ready for winter.
Read-alouds: “Why Do Leaves Change Color?”, “Johnny Appleseed”, “The Ant and the Grasshopper”, “The Enormous Turnip” and “Stone Soup”.
For the whole family: Collect leaves on a walk and sort them by color, size and shape.
