Spell words with oo

1. Say a word: book, look, foot and wood. Your child says each sound, then writes the word.
2. Check each one together and fix any letter that is off.
3. Read all eight oo words as fast as you can, then once more.

1. Set the clock to 3:00, 7:00 and 11:00, and say each time aloud.
2. Then your child sets the clock for three times you say.

Soil, sand and clay

1. Feel soil, sand and clay or play dough, and write one word for how each one feels.
2. Your child writes what they noticed, starting with “I saw.”

Slates and chalk

1. Children wrote on slates, small chalkboards, because paper cost a lot.
2. Do today's spelling words on a chalkboard or whiteboard, wiping it clean between words.
