Night Zookeeper

By Night ZookeeperChecked October 31, 2026No affiliate links. Programs never pay to appear. How we label

Night Zookeeper is an online reading and writing program for ages 6 to 12, set in a fantasy zoo where children invent animals and write to help the story's characters. It covers writing, reading, spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary through lessons, challenges, word games and writing prompts. Qualified tutors review every piece of writing before it is published on the site, and parents assign work and see progress on their own dashboard.

What it does well

  • Children write often, and qualified tutors give written feedback that parents can read on the dashboard.
  • A child who resists writing gets a game world, characters and animals of their own as a reason to write.
  • It is ad-free with no open chat, and a tutor checks every piece of writing before it is published.
  • Up to 3 children fit on one account, and there is a 7-day free trial.

Watch for

  • The site shows no prices before checkout; the plan and total appear only after starting the trial.
  • It is a screen program, with printables and books sold or offered separately.
  • Extra one-to-one feedback through Advanced Tutoring costs more.

It fits

A family with a reluctant writer aged 6 to 12 who will write more for a story world and an audience.

It doesn’t fit

A family that wants a paper grammar course, a set daily lesson plan, or less screen time.

What we read, and how we label

Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
