BrainPOP Homeschool
BrainPOP is a website of short animated movies, each followed by quizzes, games and activities, on more than 800 topics in subjects such as science, social studies and math. The Homeschool plan is for grades 3 to 8 with up to four student profiles, and a parent can assign movies and quizzes and see auto-graded results in a dashboard. A larger plan adds BrainPOP Jr. for kindergarten to 3rd grade.

- Placement
- No placement test on the publisher’s site when we checked.
What it does well
- Short movies introduce a topic quickly, and each one comes with a quiz and activities to check what stuck.
- One plan covers up to four children, and the parent can set assignments with due dates and see auto-graded results.
- With over 800 topics, it is easy to find a movie for whatever a child is studying in another program.
- A two-week free trial lets you try it before paying.
Watch for
- It is a set of topics, not a sequenced course, so it fits beside a main curriculum rather than in place of one.
- Assignments, projects and the parent dashboard work on a desktop only; on iOS children get the movies and quizzes.
- The Homeschool plan starts at 3rd grade; younger children need the more costly plan with BrainPOP Jr.
- Plans are yearly subscriptions, so the cost comes round every year.
It fits
A family that wants short, lively videos to introduce or review topics alongside its main books, for several children at once.
It doesn’t fit
A family looking for a complete course with a lesson for every day, or one that wants little screen time.

What we read, and how we label
Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
