Kindergarten, week 4, day 4

Day 19 of 180 · History: Rules and getting along · about 70 minutes

Reading20 min

Read: Dad Naps

  1. Your child can sound out every word in it: it uses only letters they know, plus a few sight words. Point under each word as they read.
  2. When your child is stuck, say the first sound and let them finish the word, rather than saying the whole word.
  3. Afterward, ask: what was your favorite page, and why?
Math20 min

Compare on ten frames

  1. Show 7 on one ten frame and 5 on another.
  2. Which is more? Ask how your child can tell without counting every dot.
History15 min

Naming feelings

  1. Name feelings together: happy, sad, mad, scared, surprised. Act each one out with your face.
  2. What can we do when we feel mad? Make a list.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Muskrat Is Grumpy

  1. Read “Muskrat Is Grumpy” aloud, and let your child turn the pages.
  2. Afterward, ask: who was your favorite in the story, and why?
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
