Review the letter sounds
- Point to each letter learned so far (m, s, a, t, p, i, n, d, c, o, g, h, e, l, r, u, f, b, k, j, w, v, x, y, z and qu); your child says its sound.
- Go back over any sound that is slow, with a word that starts with it.
- Spin the letter wheel for a quick game: say the sound of whatever it lands on.

History15 min
Light long ago
- Before electric lights, homes were lit by candles and oil lamps.
- Turn off the lights at dusk for a few minutes. What is hard to do?
Read-aloud15 min
Read-aloud: The Thread That Glowed
- Read “The Thread That Glowed” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
- This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
- On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
