Kindergarten, week 22, day 1

Day 106 of 180 · History: Getting around, then and now · about 70 minutes

Reading20 min

New: ck and ng

  1. This week: ck and ng. Ck says /k/ at the end of a short word (duck, back), and ng is the sound at the end of ring.
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: duck, back, sock and kick.
  3. Your child finds a ck and ng word in a book or on a box at home.
Math20 min

Counting on to add

  1. 6 + 3: start at 6 and count on 3 more: 7, 8, 9.
  2. Start with the bigger number: it is quicker. Try 2 + 7.
History15 min

Getting around today

  1. List every way your family travels: car, bus, bike, train, walking.
  2. Which is the fastest? Which is the most fun?
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Go, Snail, Go!

  1. Read “Go, Snail, Go!” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. Before reading, look at the title and the first page and ask: what do you think this story is about?
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
