Kindergarten, week 17, day 5

Day 85 of 180 · Science: Animals in winter · about 70 minutes

Reading20 min

Reread: Ten Pigs

  1. Reread “Ten Pigs” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “three” and “down”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Math20 min

Tens, then ones

  1. Count to 100 by tens, then stop at 40 and count on by ones to 50.
  2. Try it again from 70 to 80.
Science15 min

Sleep, leave or stay

  1. Make three columns: animals that sleep, leave or stay.
  2. Draw at least two animals in each.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Pim and the Mitten

  1. Read “Pim and the Mitten” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. Afterward, ask: has anything like this happened to you? How was it the same, or different?
