Letters w and v · Adding: putting together · Pushes and pulls
Week 14 of 36 in kindergarten, in quarter 2. Five days, about 70 minutes each.
Reading: the sounds of w and v, one a day, then blending them with the letters learned before. Sight words: “not” and “one”. The new story is “Pup in the Tub”, and the reread is “Get Up, Gus!”.
Math: Adding: putting together. Adding as putting two groups together, with story problems within 5 acted out with things.
Science: Pushes and pulls. A push or a pull starts things moving, stops them, and changes their direction; a harder push makes a bigger change.
Read-alouds: “The Enormous Turnip”, “Ben and the Blocks”, “The Little Blue Engine”, “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” and “Paul Bunyan and Babe”.
For the whole family: Play a pushing game with balls of different sizes and talk about which went farthest and why.
