1st grade, week 5, day 5

Day 25 of 180 · Science: Weather watch · about 85 minutes

Reading25 min

Reread: At the Farm

  1. Reread “At the Farm” from last week. The second time is smoother and quicker: that is fluency growing.
  2. Find this week's sight words, “every” and “fly”, in the book or on their cards.
  3. Let your child pick one page to read to someone else in the family.
Math25 min

Writing it both ways

  1. Write five number sentences with the answer on the left, like 9 = 4 + 5.
  2. Read each one aloud: nine is the same as four plus five.
Science20 min

Weather report

  1. Your child gives a weather report for the week from your notes: warmest day, rainiest day, windiest day.
  2. Make a bar graph of the kinds of days.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Rain's Long Trip

  1. Read “Rain's Long Trip” aloud. If your child asks to hear it again, say yes: hearing a story twice is how it sticks.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
