1st grade homeschool plan, week 5
Endings ck, ng and nk · The equal sign · Weather watch
Week 5 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 1. Five days, about 85 minutes each.
Reading: ck, ng and nk, ck says /k/ after a short vowel (duck), ng is the sound at the end of ring, and nk is ng plus /k/ (pink). Words to read and spell: duck, sock, ring, song, pink, bank, back and thing. Sight words: “every” and “fly”. The new story is “The Hat Cat”, and the reread is “At the Farm”.
Math: The equal sign. The equal sign means the same as: both sides must balance, whichever side the answer is on.
Science: Weather watch. Sunny, cloudy, rainy, windy and snowy: looking at the weather each day and noticing patterns.
Read-alouds: “Mrs. Hedgehog's Umbrella”, “The North Wind and the Sun”, “Marit and the Storm Pony”, “Ruby and the Rainy Picnic” and “Rain's Long Trip”.
For the whole family: Keep one weather chart for the week, with a different child filling it in each day.
