Review: the year's spelling patterns · Year review and math games · Looking back on my year

Week 36 of 36 in 1st grade, in quarter 4. Five days, about 110 minutes each.

Reading: a review week (the year's spelling patterns). Every sound so far, writing words by their sounds, and the sight words “sleep” and “tell”. The new story is “The Little Lantern”, and the reread is “Tom and the Big Fish”.

Writing: My year in a paragraph. Your child writes a paragraph about their year: a topic sentence, three things they learned or did, and an ending sentence.

Math: Year review and math games. A week of games that use everything from the year.

Social studies: Looking back on my year. Children look back at how they have grown and what they have learned, and make a book of their year.

Science, a shorter piece each day: What I wonder. Scientists start with a question, make a guess, test it, and say what happened; children pick a question and try it.

Read-alouds: “Eeyore's Birthday”, “Priya Moves Away”, “Dumpling Takes the Lead”, “The Elephant's Child” and “The Magic Paintbrush”.

For the whole family: Each child picks their favorite thing from the year to show the family.
