1st grade, week 13, day 1

Day 61 of 180 · Science: Animal homes · about 85 minutes

Reading25 min

New: -ed

  1. This week: -ed. -ed means it already happened, and it says /t/ (jumped), /d/ (played) or /ed/ (rested).
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: jumped, helped, played and rained.
  3. Your child finds a -ed word in a book or on a box at home.
Math25 min

Bundles of ten

  1. Count out 34 straws or craft sticks and bundle them in tens with rubber bands.
  2. 3 bundles and 4 loose: 3 tens and 4 ones make 34.
Science20 min

Habitats

  1. A habitat gives an animal food, water and shelter: a pond, a forest, a desert, the ocean.
  2. Find a desert and a forest on Planet Earth.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Three Little Pigs

  1. Read “The Three Little Pigs” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. Before reading, look at the title and the first page and ask: what do you think this story is about?
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
