Day 46 of 180 · Science: Living and nonliving · about 85 minutes

Reading25 min

New: a_e

  1. This week: a_e. The e at the end is silent and makes the a say its name: cap becomes cape.
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: cake, make, game and name.
  3. Your child finds a a_e word in a book or on a box at home.
Math25 min

Counting back from the teens

  1. 15 − 3: count back 3: 14, 13, 12.
  2. Counting back works best when taking away a small number. Try 17 − 2 and 13 − 4.
Science20 min

What living things do

  1. Living things grow, need food and water, and have young.
  2. Sort pictures or things into living and not living, and say which rule decided each.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Three Rocks in a Shoebox

  1. Read “Three Rocks in a Shoebox” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
