College admissions for homeschoolers

What to have ready, and where each college says what it wants.

Each college sets its own homeschool admissions rules, so check its admissions page first. The College Board's guide says homeschoolers register for the SAT online and enter 970000 when asked for a high school code, and can request fee waivers directly if eligible. Prepare a transcript with course descriptions and a reading list; Peabody's transcript tool makes one.

Checked October 29, 2026.

A checklist

  1. Make a transcript with courses, grades and credits.
  2. Write a short description of each course (what it covered, what books and materials).
  3. Keep a reading list and a list of activities.
  4. Register for the SAT online and use 970000 as the high school code, per the College Board's guide.
  5. Read each college's homeschool admissions page, and ask the admissions office what it wants.

Test scores

The College Board says homeschoolers register for the SAT online without contacting a local school, and eligible low-income homeschoolers can request fee waivers directly. For PSAT, homeschoolers are "away students" who must contact a local participating school at least four weeks before the testing window.

What we did not check

We did not read any individual college's policy, and we have not verified the Common Application's homeschool steps. Use each college's own page.
