Zearn Math

By Zearn (nonprofit)Checked October 31, 2026No affiliate links. Programs never pay to appear. How we label

Zearn Math is a free online math program for kindergarten to 8th grade from a nonprofit. Each digital lesson starts with fluency practice, then an on-screen teacher works through a new idea with pictures, visual models and digital manipulatives, and the child solves problems on paper as well as on screen. Families sign up for a free account; the kindergarten to 5th grade lessons build on Eureka Math and the 6th to 8th grade lessons on Illustrative Mathematics.

What it does well

  • The digital lessons are free for families, so a child can try any grade from kindergarten to 8th without buying anything.
  • Lessons move from objects to pictures to numbers, with visual models and digital manipulatives on screen.
  • Every lesson has paper-and-pencil problems, and printable Student Notes go with the digital lessons.
  • When a child gets stuck, the lesson changes in real time to give more support before moving on.

Watch for

  • Most of the site is written for teachers and classrooms; the family pages are short and say little about homeschool routines.
  • The pages give no lesson length or weekly time, so the parent decides how much to do each day.
  • Printed workbooks and manipulative kits are sold separately from the free digital lessons.
  • Nearly all the teaching happens on a screen, with paper work alongside.

It fits

A family that wants a free, steady math course on screen that follows the same order as many school math programs.

It doesn’t fit

A family that wants a printed textbook and parent-led lessons, or wants to keep screen time low.

What we read, and how we label

Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
