Seton Home Study School
Seton Home Study School is an accredited distance school for families who teach at home, from pre-K to 12th grade. Full enrollment sends textbooks and workbooks for every subject with detailed daily lesson plans, and the school grades work, keeps records and issues transcripts, with counselors to call or email. Single courses and books are also sold on their own.

- Cost a year
- Tuition for each grade is shown in an online calculator rather than in the page text. The page lists a $30 New Family Fee, discounts of $70 for two students enrolled together and $320 for four, and an 8-month payment plan for tuition of $400 or more. - Placement
- No placement test on the publisher’s site when we checked.
What it does well
- One enrollment brings the books for every subject and a daily lesson plan, so nothing has to be pieced together.
- The school grades the work, keeps the records and issues transcripts, and it is accredited through MSA-CESS.
- Academic counselors answer questions by phone or email, and optional special services help children with learning challenges.
- Discounts grow with each extra student enrolled, from $70 off for two to $320 off for four.
Watch for
- A grade has many separate courses (3rd grade alone has more than ten), so a full day of textbook work takes real time.
- Tuition sits in a calculator, not on the page, so get a quote before you plan a budget.
- Cancelling means returning lesson plans and unused books, and after four months no tuition is refunded (four weeks for pre-K and K).
- Special educational services cost extra: $185 for K to 5th grade and $260 for 6th to 12th.
It fits
A family that wants a complete school year in a box, with someone else grading the work and keeping the records.
It doesn’t fit
A family that wants to choose its own books, follow a child's interests, or keep the school day short.

What we read, and how we label
Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
