Prodigy Math

By Prodigy EducationChecked October 31, 2026No affiliate links. Programs never pay to appear. How we label

Prodigy Math is an online game for 1st to 8th grade in which a child goes on quests and battles, and each battle asks math questions. A placement test sets the starting level and the questions keep adjusting to the child, going back to basics or moving ahead. The math questions are free; an optional paid membership adds goals, printable practice sheets, extra game rewards and, on the higher plans, science and English.

What it does well

  • The math questions are free, so a child can practice 1st to 8th grade math without a paid plan.
  • A placement test and questions that keep adjusting mean a child works at their own level with little setup.
  • Parents get a progress portal, a monthly skill-by-skill report card and a report of grade-level skills mastered.
  • Players cannot share personal information or see bad language from other players.

Watch for

  • It is practice inside a game, not a course that teaches each topic, so a parent still teaches new ideas.
  • Members get more coins, gear and characters in the game, so children may ask for a paid plan.
  • Memberships renew on their own until cancelled, and the yearly prices were shown as a holiday sale.

It fits

A family that wants a game a child will choose to play for extra math practice beside their main math course.

It doesn’t fit

A family that wants a full math course with explained lessons, or wants to keep games and screen time low.

What we read, and how we label

Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
