Mr. D Math
Mr. D Math sells online math courses for 5th to 12th grade, from 5th grade math and pre-algebra through algebra, geometry, pre-calculus with trigonometry and calculus, plus SAT and ACT math prep. Each course comes either self-paced, with embedded video lessons and a pace chart, or as a live class that meets weekly with an instructor. Both include extra help sessions with instructors, and the school is accredited by WASC.

What it does well
- Instructors run extra help sessions at no extra cost: three a week for live classes and two a week for self-paced.
- The same course comes self-paced or live, so a family can pick how much structure a teen needs.
- The school is accredited by WASC, which can help when a course needs to count for credit.
- A gamified version with badges and points is offered for children who like that.
Watch for
- Prices are not shown on the main pages or catalog; live classes cost extra on top of the curriculum.
- Self-paced access ends on 1 March of the next school year; another year costs a $25 transfer fee, then a new purchase.
- Live classes run on a fixed weekly schedule with set deadlines.
It fits
A middle or high school student who wants video lessons with a real teacher to ask, and a parent who would rather not teach upper-level math.
It doesn’t fit
A family with young children, or one that wants a printed math book taught at home.

What we read, and how we label
Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
