Math with Confidence

By Kate Snow (Well-Trained Mind Press)Checked October 31, 2026No affiliate links. Programs never pay to appear. How we label

Math with Confidence, by Kate Snow, is a parent-taught math program from kindergarten to 6th grade. Each level has a scripted, open-and-go Instructor Guide and a Student Workbook (two parts from 3rd grade), and lessons use games, pretend play and household objects. It stays on one idea for several weeks while daily review keeps earlier skills fresh; the books are sold by Well-Trained Mind Press.

What it does well

  • The Instructor Guide is scripted and open-and-go, with notes that help a parent who feels unsure about teaching math.
  • Lessons use games, pretend play and everyday objects like coins, dice, playing cards and a clock instead of a costly kit.
  • Each unit ends with a checkpoint, so the parent knows whether to move on or spend longer.
  • A clear readiness checklist for every level helps choose where to start.

Watch for

  • The program stops at 6th grade, so another course is needed after that.
  • Every lesson starts with the parent teaching, so it is not a program a child does alone.
  • The author's pages show no prices; books are bought from Well-Trained Mind Press or other booksellers.
  • The author calls the difficulty middle of the road, so a child who wants hard puzzles may need more.

It fits

A family with a parent who wants a friendly script, hands-on games and short daily lessons in the elementary years.

It doesn’t fit

A family that wants a child to learn math alone on a screen, or a single program through high school.

What we read, and how we label

Every fact on a card was read on the publisher's own website on the date shown, and the page it came from is linked. A fact we could not confirm there is left out. Costs are for one child and one year of the main package, as the publisher's page showed them that day; prices and sales change. Method and format are the publisher's own description where it gives one. The only thing we say about religion is one label, secular or faith-based, given by the rule above; where the publisher's pages don't settle it, the card has no label.
