Nature journal page

Go outside, find one thing, and look at it long enough to draw it.

A nature journal is a notebook of things found outside, drawn and labelled with the date, the place and the weather. This free printable page has a big box for a close-up drawing and three prompts (I notice, I wonder, it reminds me of). A season of pages is a science record and a portfolio sample.

Checked October 30, 2026.

What do we draw?

One thing at a time: a leaf, a bug, a cloud, a bird at the feeder. Look closely, draw it large, and label the parts you can name.

How often?

Once a week is enough. Going back to the same tree or patch of ground through the seasons is the most interesting record of all.

Can it count as science?

Yes, as part of a science plan: it is observation, drawing and questions. Log the time in the hours log if your state counts hours.
