Kindergarten, week 35, day 1

Day 171 of 180 · Science: Summer and sun safety · about 70 minutes

Reading20 min

New: two-part words

  1. This week: two-part words. Two short words joined into one: sun + set makes sunset; read each part, then the whole.
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: sunset, cupcake, bathtub and sandbox.
  3. Your child finds a two-part words word in a book or on a box at home.
Math20 min

Counting to 100 again

  1. Count to 100 by ones, then by tens.
  2. Which way is faster? Which way did your child find easier?
Science15 min

Long days

  1. In summer the days are long and the nights are short.
  2. Notice what time the sun sets this week, and compare it with winter.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Sun Is a Star

  1. Read “The Sun Is a Star” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
