Kindergarten, week 20, day 1

Day 96 of 180 · Science: Water on Earth · about 70 minutes

Reading20 min

New: ch

  1. This week: ch. /ch/, a sneeze sound, as in chin, chip and lunch.
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: chin, chip, chop and chat.
  3. Your child finds a ch word in a book or on a box at home.
Math20 min

Parts of 8

  1. Find every way to split 8 into two parts with counters.
  2. Write each one down. How many ways did you find?
Science15 min

Where is the water?

  1. Turn the globe on Planet Earth: the blue is water, and there is much more water than land.
  2. Find the biggest ocean, and the one closest to home.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Rain's Long Trip

  1. Read “Rain's Long Trip” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
