Day 76 of 180 · Science: Snow and ice · about 85 minutes

Reading25 min

New: ee and ea

  1. This week: ee and ea. Two vowels together saying long e: ee as in tree, ea as in sea.
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: tree, feet, green and sleep.
  3. Your child finds a ee and ea word in a book or on a box at home.
Math25 min

Down a column

  1. On the hundreds chart, put a finger on 23 and move down one row: 33. That is 10 more.
  2. Try it from 47, 61 and 85.
Science20 min

Solid and liquid

  1. Ice is solid water; when it melts it becomes liquid water.
  2. Hold an ice cube until it starts to drip. What made it melt?
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: Why Does Ice Float?

  1. Read “Why Does Ice Float?” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. This one is true. Afterward, ask: what is one new thing you learned? Then find one more fact in it together.
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
