Reading25 min

New: i_e

  1. This week: i_e. The silent e makes the i say its name: kit becomes kite.
  2. Read these words together, running a finger under each one as you say it: kite, bike, time and five.
  3. Your child finds a i_e word in a book or on a box at home.
Math25 min

Adding to

  1. Mia had 8 stickers and got 5 more. How many does she have now?
  2. Your child draws it, solves it and writes the number sentence. Do two more like it.
Science20 min

Animal parents

  1. How do animal parents help their babies live? Birds feed chicks, cats carry kittens, some fish guard their eggs.
  2. Your child picks one and draws it.
Read-aloud15 min

Read-aloud: The Otter's Rock

  1. Read “The Otter's Rock” aloud. It is above what your child reads alone, on purpose: hearing longer stories builds words and understanding.
  2. Before reading, look at the title and the first page and ask: what do you think this story is about?
  3. On the read-along you can show the pages on a big screen, or let it read the words aloud while each one lights up.
