Wisconsin homeschool letters
The letters a family sends, addressed and ready to print. Nothing you type is saved or sent.
Wisconsin asks for a notice: On or before October 15 each year., to Department of Public Instruction (online).. Below are that notice, the letter to the school your child is leaving, and the letters for when homeschooling ends or you move.
Checked October 27, 2026. Information, not legal advice: Wisconsin's statute and education department are the final word.
State letters 0.1.0 · nothing you type is saved or sent
To: Department of Public Instruction (online). · When: On or before October 15 each year. · Wisconsin has its own form: PI-1206 Homeschool Enrollment Report (online, DPI). Send that; this letter can go with it as a cover note.
What Wisconsin's law asks the notice to give: File the online PI-1206 Homeschool Enrollment Report with the Department of Public Instruction every school year. Wisconsin law has the report due on or before each October 15, and DPI's registration for 2026-27 is open. DPI says it is a report, not an application, and neither DPI nor the school district approves or denies it. DPI also says to keep your own copies of your PI-1206 reports. Put each item in the details box, one a line.

Before you send it
- Read what to file in Wisconsin: the To and By lines there are the ones these letters use, each linked to the law.
- Keep a copy, and send it a way you can prove: by hand with a dated receipt, by certified mail, or by email if the office accepts it.
- Taking a child out of school mid-year? See the Wisconsin checklist for the order of steps.
