Rhode Island homeschool letters

The letters a family sends, addressed and ready to print. Nothing you type is saved or sent.

Rhode Island asks for no notice on the route described on its page: Before you begin, present an at-home instruction plan to the school committee of the town where your child lives and get it approved; RIDE says the process may start with a letter of intent to the superintendent's office, and to ask the local school department for its procedure. You may still want the letter to the school your child is leaving, below.

Checked October 30, 2026. Information, not legal advice: Rhode Island's statute and education department are the final word.

Before you send it

  • Read what to file in Rhode Island: the To and By lines there are the ones these letters use, each linked to the law.
  • Keep a copy, and send it a way you can prove: by hand with a dated receipt, by certified mail, or by email if the office accepts it.
  • Taking a child out of school mid-year? See the Rhode Island checklist for the order of steps.
