Kansas homeschool letters

The letters a family sends, addressed and ready to print. Nothing you type is saved or sent.

Kansas asks for a notice: No deadline stated. Leaving a school? Tell it, or it must report your child as truant., to Kansas State Board of Education (KSDE's online form).. Below are that notice, the letter to the school your child is leaving, and the letters for when homeschooling ends or you move.

Checked October 27, 2026. Information, not legal advice: Kansas's statute and education department are the final word.

Which letter?

To: Kansas State Board of Education (KSDE's online form). · When: No deadline stated. Leaving a school? Tell it, or it must report your child as truant. · Kansas has its own form: Nonaccredited private school registration (online, KSDE). Send that; this letter can go with it as a cover note.

What Kansas's law asks the notice to give: Kansas treats every homeschool as a nonaccredited private school. The school's name and address must be registered with the State Board of Education, once, on KSDE's online form. It costs nothing, is not an approval, and no confirmation is sent, so keep a copy. When a child leaves another school for a homeschool, the parent must tell the school the child attended or it must report the child as truant. Put each item in the details box, one a line.

  • Keep a copy, and send it a way you can prove: by hand with a dated receipt, by certified mail, or by email if the office accepts it.
  • Taking a child out of school mid-year? See the Kansas checklist for the order of steps.
