Things to do, with their deadlines
Notify the county superintendent of schools of your child's attendance at your home school.

All year
Keep count of the hours. A home school must provide the same minimum aggregate hours of pupil instruction as public schools: 720 hours for grades 1 through 3 and 1,080 hours for grades 4 through 12 in a school fiscal year. 1,050 aggregate hours may be enough for graduating seniors. The law sets hours, not a number of days.

The home school section does not require immunization records (that is listed only for nonpublic schools).

Good habits (not in the law)
-
Keep a copy of everything you send, and of any acknowledgement you get back, with the date.
-
Start simple records on day one: the days you teach, the books you read and a few samples of work in each subject. They help if you move, return to school or apply to college.
