Worldschooling and travelling: which state's law applies?
Homeschooling while you travel or live abroad.
This guide is a draft. Homeschool law is written by each state for children who live there, and families who travel need to know which state still counts as home. We have not yet confirmed that from state education departments, so we publish no rule here. Your state's law page and its education department can tell you.
Checked October 27, 2026.
This is a plain-words summary, not legal advice. Laws change: check your state's current law (each state page links to the statute) and its education department before you act.
What we know so far
Homeschool laws are written by each state for children who live there. Which state counts as your home while you travel is a question for your state's education department; we haven't confirmed an answer from one, so this page gives none. Start with your state's law page and keep your records up to date wherever you are.
