Things to do, with their deadlines
- Suggested, not required
The Department of Education asks you to contact your district's central office about local requirements and give notice of your intention to homeschool.

All year
Teach the subjects Connecticut names: reading, writing, spelling, English grammar, geography, arithmetic, United States history, citizenship (town, state and federal governments).
Source: Connecticut General Statutes chapter 168, sections 10-184 and 10-184a (General Assembly)We found no required records in the statute. As a "best practice" the Department suggests keeping a log of attendance reflecting days and hours of instruction, and a portfolio for each child with samples of activities, assignments, projects and assessments, plus a log of books and materials used, including results of any national assessments.

Good habits (not in the law)
-
Keep a copy of everything you send, and of any acknowledgement you get back, with the date.
-
Start simple records on day one: the days you teach, the books you read and a few samples of work in each subject. They help if you move, return to school or apply to college.
