8 cards in each kind you chose (control cards, picture cards, label cards).

Pictures are your device's emoji, which look a little different on each device. For a steady look, add your own photos below.

How to use it

  1. Pick a ready-made set (farm animals, fruit, the body, opposites and more) or type your own words, one a line.
  2. For picture cards, put an emoji at the end of the line, or add your own photo under the list. For word cards, type word | partner.
  3. Choose the card size, lowercase or not, a border color, and which kinds of card to print.
  4. Press Print on card stock, cut along the lines, and keep the control cards for checking.

Ideas for class

  • Start with the control cards and picture cards only; add the label cards when the child can match pictures with confidence.
  • Make a set from things in your own home with your own photos, so the cards look like the child's world.
  • Sort pictures by the first sound, then match labels to them, then check against the control cards.
  • Print the word cards for opposites, plurals or contractions for an older child.
  • Store each set in its own small envelope or tin, with the control cards in a separate pocket.

Questions

What are three-part cards?

A Montessori language material. Each thing has three cards: a control card with the picture and its word together, a picture card with the picture alone, and a label card with the word alone. The child matches the pictures and labels, then checks their work against the control cards.

Where do the pictures come from?

Your device's emoji, or photos you add yourself. Emoji look a little different on each device, so use your own photos if you want a steady look. Photos are shrunk on this computer and kept only while the page is open.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. They stay on this computer, they are not saved, and they are not in the link you can copy, which carries only your word list.

Can I make cards for words and definitions instead of pictures?

Yes. Switch to Words and words, and type each line as word | partner, such as mouse | mice. The partner prints large where the picture would be, and the word goes on the label.

What paper and size?

US Letter or A4. Large cards are 3 inches wide, six control cards to a page; medium are 12 and small are 20. Printing on card stock makes them last.
